EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern fell 2-1 at home for the first time this season to Michigan State Sunday at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium.
The loss dropped Northwestern's record to 12-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in Big Ten action. The 'Cats now trail the Spartans by three points in the Big Ten standings with one week to go in the regular season.
How it Happened
Michigan St. started the scoring when Samantha White scored in the 12th minute. The Spartans increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Celia Gaynor in the 20th minute, assisted by Ruby Diodati.
Northwestern got on the scoreboard to make it a 2-1 game on Rowan Lapi's 54th-minute penalty kick goal, her fourth of the season. That scoreline held for the remainder of the match.
