Wildcats Fall to Hawkeyes 2-1 in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Northwestern look a lead in the second half, but a swift response from Iowa resulted in a 2-1 defeat on the road for the Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Ingrid Falls scored the goal in the 61st minute, her second of the season. Her chip shot came on a long pass from junior Rowan Lapi, who recorded her first assist of the season.
Iowa responded with goals in the 64th and 65th minute. The Hawkeyes ultimately improved to 7-1-1 on the season, while the 'Cats moved to 4-4.
The Wildcats battled the Hawkeyes evenly thorughout most of the match, with an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal and 12 shots compared to Iowa's 13.
Senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Wood made five saves, including a crucial stop on a penalty kick with 11 minutes left to keep the score at 2-1.
The Wildcats had chances in the final 10 minutes to tie the game, th best of which was a header from Ella Hase that went just wide of the far post with nine minutes to play.
Northwestern continues its three game road swing to start Big Ten play on Thursday at No. 8 Penn State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT at Jeffrey Field and will be streamed on Big Ten Network+.
