Seven 'Cats Earn All-Big Ten Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. – Seven Wildcats, the most of any team, earned All-Big Ten honors the conference announced Thursday, just before the opening game of the Big Ten Tournament.
Four 'Cats landed a spot on the First Team: Izzy Scane, Lauren Gilbert, Lindsey McKone and Ally Palermo. Scane and Gilbert were both unanimous selections. Brennan Dwyer, Allie Berkery and Sammy Mueller were all named to the Second Team. Berkery and Mueller also earned At Large honors.
Scane earned a grand total of five Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors this year after a record setting season. She also earned IWCLA and US lacrosse player of the week honors. Scane racked up a total of 70 goals this season to lead the nation in addition to setting the single game program record this season with ten goals against Rutgers. With 18 assists, she also leads the nation in points with 88. Her goal and point totals in just eleven games this year have already surpassed her totals freshman year when she played 20 games.
Gilbert is second in the team in goals, points and draw controls with 50, 59 and 48 respectively. After setting a new career high of seven goals in her outing against Penn State, she was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. Gilbert is currently fourth in the nation in goals per game and sixth in free-position percentage with a .783 clip.
McKone has been a staple of the Northwestern offense in her five years with the program. She has contributed 17 goals and 15 assists so far this season. She earned Inside Lacrosse Third Team honors for her performance last season, when she led the team in assists. McKone also led the team with 28 assists in her sophomore season and earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship award.
This marks Palermo's second All-Big Ten Team Honors and her second First Team honors after being named to Inside Lacrosse's First Team last season. She currently leads the team with 12 caused turnovers and a whopping 19 ground balls.
Dwyer, Northwestern's go-to draw control specialist, currently leads the Big Ten in draw controls per game at 6.09 with a total of 67 on the season. She has also contributed five goals and five ground balls.
Berkery is another stalwart of the Northwestern defense. She is second in ground balls and caused turnovers with 14 and 10. Additionally, she has contributed three assists this season due to her excellent play in the midfield.
Mueller is third on the team with 24 goals and 41 points. She has scored in every game so far this season, with a hat trick in five. Last year, Mueller earned Inside Lacrosse second team honors for her performance with the Cavaliers in her senior season.
After clinching the Big Ten regular season championship the 'Cats secured a first-round bye in the Big Ten tournament and will play either Rutgers or Ohio State on Friday, Apr. 30 on Big Ten Network.
