Women's Golf Earns 11th Straight NCAA Bid

EVANSTON, Illinois -- Wildcats women's golf is headed to its 11th consecutive NCAA Regional, earning a bid announced Wednesday afternoon live on Golf Channel's "Golf Central". Northwestern will tee off the Stanford Regional on Monday, May 10, at Stanford Golf Course.

Under four-time Big Ten Coach of the Year Emily Fletcher and assistant Beth Miller, the 'Cats have not only qualified for seven consecutive NCAA Championships, but posted seven-straight Top-15 finishes at the game's premier event, including four Top-10s and a runner-up result in 2017 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. They have now guided Northwestern to 11 straight NCAA Regionals invitations, a streak which began in 2010 and includes a runaway 2016 win at Shoal Creek. The 2020 NCAA Regionals and Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Northwestern lineup will include 2021 Big Ten Golfer of the Year, Irene Kim, an honor for the sophomore that was announced earlier Wednesday.

Golf Channel's Ryan Lavner immediately noted the Stanford Regional as the most challenging of the four NCAA Regional sites (others being hosted in Louisville, Kentucky; Columbus, Ohio; Baton Rouge, Louisiana), and by a wide margin. Scheduling challenges presented by the pandemic made for a uniquely difficult season in which to measure teams against one another. The 'Cats will be out west with three of the Top-8 teams in April's WGCA Coaches Poll.

Each regional site includes 18 teams and six individuals not on advancing teams. The top six teams and top three individuals not on advancing teams will move on to the May 21-26 NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
