Wildcats take home wins at Indiana’s Big Ten Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Northwestern women's cross-country team kicked off the outdoor track season with two victories at the Big Ten Indiana Invite No. 1 in Bloomington, Indiana on Friday and Saturday, March 26-27.
On Friday, sophomore Kalea Bartolotto led a Northwestern sweep of the top three places when she won the 5,000 meters in 16:52 at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex. Bartolotto's performance improved on her previous personal best by 36 seconds. Behind her, freshman Katherine Hessler finished second in 17:20, a 42-second personal best in her second 5,000-meter race on the track. Junior Rachel McCardell finished third in 17:20.
McCardell returned on Saturday to win the 1500 meters in 4:32, which improved on her previous personal best of 4:34 from the 2019 Bryan Clay Invitational. In the same race, senior Clare Severe finished eighth in 4:35, and freshman Emily Casaclang finished 16th in 4:46.
The Wildcats' next competition will be the Big Ten Indiana Invite No. 2 in Bloomington on April 9.
