Trautwein Homers in Third Straight Game in Loss

URBANA-CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Northwestern lost the high-scoring series-opener against the Fighting Illini on Friday evening. The Wildcats posted eight runs in the contest.
Michael Trautwein homered for the third straight game for the 'Cats. He ripped a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall in the ninth inning, driving in three runs. The junior drove in five of NU's eight runs with a two-RBI single in the top of the fourth.
Shawn Goosenberg is hitting his stride at the plate, going 3-for-5 in the contest. He added a run and a RBI to the Wildcat effort. Goosenberg is 10 of his last 20 at the plate.
Ethan O'Donnell looked impressive at the plate, hitting two singles and scoring two runs in the game. The first-year is batting .256 so far this season.
Northwestern held a 5-4 lead headed into the seventh inning. To the dismay of Wildcat pitchers, the Fighting Illini strung together a eight-run hit parade in the seventh.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will play the second game of the rivalry series at 1:05 p.m. CT on Saturday. The game can be found on BTN+.
