Late Home Runs Lift Wildcats to Another Comeback Win

Northwestern Took Game One From Minnesota, 4-3
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Trailing 3-2 entering the eighth inning, Northwestern launched back-to-back home runs to ultimately win 4-3 in game one at Minnesota at US Bank Stadium on Saturday night.
The game-tying home run came from Anthony Calarco and the game-winning home run came from Shawn Goosenberg, one game after hitting a three-run walkoff homer to sink Michigan State last Sunday.
Mike Doherty turned in a quality start with 6.0 IP, two earned runs, four hits and three strikeouts. Quinn Lavelle improved to 2-0 with two innings of relief while Coby Moe earned the save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
The Wildcats improved to 6-3 on the season and sit in third place in the Big Ten standings, a reflection of the Wildcats impressive start to the 2021 season.
The first two runs of the day came from Stephen Hrustich, who launched a two-run home run in the first inning to continue his offensive tear to start the season. He has now homered in four straight games and his four HR and 13 RBI are both tied for second in the Big Ten.
Goosenberg recorded the only multi-hit day for the Wildcats in a tense Big Ten series opener.
The 'Cats will look to consolidate their series lead tomorrow against Minnesota with first pitch set for 1 p.m. CT on Big Ten Network+. Tyler Uberstine is scheduled to start.
