GREENSBORO, NC -- Northwestern concluded its second day of competition at the NCAA Championships in historic fashion Friday. Senior Sophie Angus earned All-American honors with an eighth-place finish in the 100 breast while the 200 medley relay team of Emma Lepisova, Angus, Miriam Guevara and Maddie Smith also received the national recognition. Hannah Brunzell and Guevara earned individual Honorable All-American nods and each broke a school record in the process.

Breaststroke has been the Wildcats' wheelhouse all season and that proved true again Friday with the duo of Angus and Brunzell in the 100 breast. Angus qualified for the championship final where she secured eighth and All-American honors. Brunzell won the consolation final in school record-breaking time, touching in 58.50 to take ninth place overall in the event. The pair dominated in the event at the Big Ten Championships last month, together taking second and third for Northwestern.

The 200 medley relay team followed up its record-breaking performance at the Big Tens with All-American honors and 12 points for Chicago's Big Ten Team after touching in 1:36.60. The event marked Angus and Smith's second All-American recognitions of the competition and the first for Lepisova and Guevara.

Guevara set the tone early for Northwestern on day two, touching in 51.90 during the 100 fly prelims, shattering the previous school record she established in 2019. Riding that wave into finals, she ultimately received Honorable All-American honors with 13th place and another swim faster than the old record. Smith also competed in the 100 fly after taking seventh in the 50 free yesterday.

Sophomore Ally Larson and first-year Selen Ozbilen saw their first-ever individual action at an NCAA Championship in the 200 free, and Lepisova battled for the 'Cats in the 10 back.

The Wildcats closed competition Friday in 16th with 64 points, and they now look to finish their impressice national run tomorrow. Prelims are set to begin in Greensboro at 10 a.m. CT and finals are slated for 6 p.m. CT. Live coverage of both sessions can be found on ESPN3.
