Maddie Smith Earns All-American Honors in 50m Freestyle

Greensboro, NC – Northwestern senior Maddie Smith earned All-American honors after placing seventh nationally in the 50m freestyle during Thursday's NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Lake Forest, Ill. native Smith set a school record in the 50m freestyle with a time of 21.92. It marks the first time of Smith's career achieving All-American status.

Smith becomes the fourth Wildcat in program history to earn All-American honors, and the first since 2008.

In addition, the 200m freestlye relay team of Smith, Selen Ozbilen, Ally Larson, and Isabella Wallace earned Honorable All-American honors on Thursday, earning a Top-15 national finish.

The Wildcats capped off the night earning another Honorable All-American honor for the 400m medley relay team made up of Emma Lepisova, Sophie Angus, Miriam Guevara and Smith. The team combined for a 12th place finsih in the medley relay.

Northwestern is back in action on Friday as action at the 2021 Championships continues.
