DeAugustino, Mayfield Earn Wins Over No. 9 Illinois

EVANSTON, Ill. – A pair of Northwestern wrestlers earned exciting victories over No. 9 Illinois in Sunday's dual at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
At 125 lbs, #3 Michael DeAugustino remained undefeated on the early season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over #13 Justin Cardani. After striking first with a second period escape, DeAugustino sealed the victory with a phenomenal on top in the third period to secure the deciding point via ride time.
True first-year Maxx Mayfield added to an already impressive rookie campaign with a decisive 8-2 decision over Johnny Mologousis, marking Mayfield's second dual victory of the season.
At 149 lbs, #15 Yahya Thomas dropped his first match of the season to one of the nation's top wrestlers in his class, #8 Mike Carr. Thomas gave Carr all he could handle, but ultimately could not complete a last second takedown in a narrow 3-2 decision for Carr.
