Historic Day Two at Big Ten Swimming Championhips

MINNEAPOLIS – Northwestern women's swimming program sits in fourth place with 258 points at the 2021 Big Ten Championships after a historic second day of competition.
Northwestern had program-record 11 swimmers qualify for final swims on day two of the championships. Senior Maddie Smith headlined the individual swim with a third-place finish in the 50 free with a school-record time of 21.94. It was the first time in program history that a member of the women's program posted a sub 22-second time.
The Wildcats claimed their second silver-medal finish in a relay of the week when Emma Lepisova, Sophie Angus, Miriam Guevara and Maddie Smith touched the wall in 400 medley relay with a time of 3:29.58. The time was an NCAA A-Cut and a school record.
Hanna Brunzell posted a team-best finish in the 200 IM, placing 16th with a time of 2:01.02. Lola Mull finished 10th overall in the 500 free (4:45.87), while Ilektra Lebl finished 16th overall (4:59.15).
Thursday prelims begin at 11 a.m. CT and finals for the 100 fly, 400 IM and 200 free get underway at 6:30 p.m. CT.
