EVANSTON, Ill. – Junior Izzy Scane was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and the IWCLA National Player of the Week after a career performance against the Buckeyes on Sunday.
Northwestern secured a dominant 23-7 win over Ohio State in their season-opener, propelled by strong performance from Scane. She notched a career high nine goals, tying the Northwestern program single-game record for goals scored, previously set by Selena Lasota against Richmond in 2018 and Rutgers in 2019. Her previous career-high of eight goals was set in their last game of the 2020 season against UNC.
Scane also served as a distributor, posting three assists to earn a career high 12 points. She posted 11 shots, another career high, and all nine of her shots on goal found the back of the net. Five of her goals were unassisted, with three of them coming from free-position shots. Scane was also active on the defensive end, picking up two ground balls.
This is Scane's first Big Ten honor after being named Big Ten Freshman of the year and a seven-time Big Ten Freshman of the week honoree in 2019. She was second on the team in goals (62), points (80) and draw controls (59). Her short, but impressive performance in the 2020 season earned her Inside Lacrosse's All American Second Team honors. She led the Wildcats with 29 goals and tied for second in caused turnovers with six.
Scane will return to the field on Friday to face John's Hopkins for the first time since 2019. She was second amongst the 'Cats in goals with four in their 20-13 win over the No. 17 Blue Jays. She also picked up three draw controls, two ground balls, an assist and caused a turnover.
