EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern opened Big Ten play with a dominant win over Ohio State, 23-7, highlighted by a record nine goals from junior Izzy Scane.

Scane's career-high nine goals led the field, matching the single-game high in goals set by Wildcat legend Selena Lasota. Senior Lauren Gilbert followed with six, matching her previous career high set last year against Stanford. In all, 10 different 'Cats were able to find the back of the net. Senior Lindsey McKone led the field in assists with four, while adding an unassisted goal of her own.

Northwestern found early success at the draw, grabbing 13 while the Buckeyes were only able to control two. Gilbert was able to come away with the first draw control and first-year Leah Holmes was able to immediately convert, scoring her first collegiate goal. McKone had the assist and she went on to post two more for Scane, leading the field in the first half.

The first half culminated in a long 15-0 run for the 'Cats, 10 of those points coming from free position shots. Gilbert and Scane chipped in three apiece, while Scane led the field in scoring with six goals. Madison Doucette locked down the net, shutting out Ohio State and picking up five saves. She ended the game with eight total saves.

The 'Cats opened up the second half with another goal from a first-year, when Kendall Halpern fired one into the back of the net. Scane ripped two more on consecutive possessions to match her career high of eight goals. Gilbert followed suit and matched her career high of six goals with another free position goal. Scane notched the last goal in the last ten minutes bringing her total to nine.

Ohio State was able to find seven goals late in the second half, but they were unable build enough momentum to cut into the 15-point lead Northwestern built in the first.

The 'Cat will hit the road for a double-header weekend against John's Hopkins. Their first matchup with the Blue Jays is set for Friday.
