'Cats Roll Through Field at Western Invitational

Colorado Spring, Co. - Northwestern Fencing wrapped up an impressive weekend in Colorado Spring on Sunday, finishing 6-2 on the weekend with over North Carolina, Air Force, NJIT, Brandeis, Incarnate Word and UCSD at the 2021 Western Invitational.
The Wildcats showcased their depth across all three weapons on the first day of the competition, with at least one of their four team victories coming with a different group of fencers leading the way. Northwestern would lean on their sabers against UCSD and North Carolina, a group whose effort was even more impressive with Sky Miller away on World Cup duty.
Thea Nguyen won all three of her bouts against the Tritons, carrying the Wildcats halfway to their first victory of the Western Invitational. Against Incarnate Word, it would be Melissa Florez who continued her strong start to the season with a trio of victories.
But the Wildcats would save their best performance for Sunday against host Air Force, defeating the Falcons 23-4 and sweeping the foil and epee. Emma Scala, Hanna Lipthay and Julia Falinska took care of business in the epee, while Sarah Filby, Alyssa Chen and Elina Moon swept the foil.
The 'Cats are back in Evanston this weekend, as Northwestern hosts the NU Duals at Pattten Gymnasium on November 21.
