'Cats Excel At Roberta Alison Fall Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Al. – Hannah McColgan, Sydney Pratt, Kiley Rabjohns, and Aino Alkio competed in the University of Alabama's 33rd annual Roberta Alison Fall Classic this weekend.

The four Wildcats combined to post an 8-2 record against a field of teams from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Indiana, Maryland, Memphis, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Alabama, Troy, Tulane, Virginia Tech, UAB and Wisconsin.

Each 'Cat participated in one singles match. Hannah McColgan defeated Camila Romero of Memphis in three tight sets (3-6, 6-1, 11-9), while Aino Alkio (6-4, 6-1) and Sydney Pratt (6-1, 6-1) each quieted an opponent from the University of Alabama in two dominant sets. It was the first competitive appearance at Northwestern for sophomore Aino Alkio.

For the doubles compass draw, the 'Cats stuck with the familiar pair of Pratt/McColgan, while Alkio/Rabjohns competed in the doubles round robin draw.

Pratt and McColgan have been on fire this fall, winning three matches at last week's ITA Midwest Super Regionals to qualify for the ITA Fall Championships in San Diego next week.

The duo continued their strong doubles play this weekend, sweeping all three matchups on Friday against opponents from Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, and Alabama. Pratt and McColgan won 18 of the 22 games played in the three matches.

Alkio and Rabjohns also turned in a strong effort, bouncing back from a first-round loss to win their next two matchups.

Next up for the Wildcats is Hannah McColgan and Sydney Pratt's trip to San Diego for the ITA Fall Championships, which kick off this Thursday, Nov. 4, and run through Sunday.
