WILMETTE, Ill. – Northwestern finished tied for seventh out of 15 teams in its home tournament, the Windy City Collegiate Classic, at the Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette on Monday and Tuesday.
Kelly Sim led the way for Northwestern, finishing tied for 14th. Sim improved on each day, opening with a 78 on day one, then cutting her score to 74 and 72 (par) in rounds two and three.
This is Sim's second straight top-15 finish, after tying for seventh in the Mason Rudolph Invitational last weekend.
After posting a +11 through the first two rounds, first-year Lauren Nguyen snuck into the top-20 with a day three. Nguyen shot a 70 (-2) in the third round, tied for the third lowest score of the round in the field of 84, to jump 27 spots in the ranking and finish the tournament T-19.
The Wildcats joined South Carolina as the only two teams to have two golfers shoot par or under in the final round.
Sophomore Jennifer Cai helped NU secure a seventh-place finish, placing T-38 after shooting under 80 every round.
The 'Cats look to keep rolling next weekend as they travel to Palo Alto for the Stanford Intercollegiate (Oct. 15-17).
