The Wildcats are slated to host six home duals, as well as a historic Midlands Championships this upcoming season.
EVANSTON, Ill. – Tickets are now on sale for Northwestern wrestling's 2021-22 season, as head coach Matt Storniolo's program looks to build off one of the most impressive seasons in program history while returning a talented lineup competing in the best wrestling conference in the country.
The Wildcats are slated to host six home duals this season (four vs. Big Ten opponents), beginning with a non-conference meeting with SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday, Nov. 13 after kicking off the season on November 6 in East Lansing at the Michigan State Open.
This season's Ken Kraft Midlands Championships will mark a historic occasion, as the most prestigious wrestling non-conference wrestling tournament in the nation will be adding a women's division for the first time ever. 150 women's wrestlers among 11 different schools comprising 10 weight classes will wrestle on Dec. 30.
Northwestern welcomes the defending national champions Iowa to Welsh-Ryan Arena for their home-opener on Friday, Jan. 14. Other home Big Ten matchups for the Wildcats include Nebraska (Jan. 23), Maryland (Feb. 6) before rounding out the regular season with a non-conference meeting with Northern Illinois on Feb. 13, followed by the regular season finale vs. Purdue on Saturday, Feb. 19 for Senior Day.
Northwestern will look to repeat its success from last season at the B1G Championship on March 5th and 6th in Lincoln, Neb., followed by the NCAA Championships from March 17-19 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
Last season, Northwestern finished tenth at the NCAA Championships, its highest ranking since 2014 and best placement under Storniolo. Three Wildcats–Yahya Thomas, Ryan Deakin, and Chris Cannon–earned All-American honors after career-best showings at the championships. Thomas and Deakin each finished in third place, while Cannon earned seventh place in his rookie season with the 'Cats. All three will be returning to campus for the upcoming campaign, as they look to build off incredible individual seasons. Also returning to the Wildcats lineup are 2020 All-Americans, Michael DeAugustino and Lucas Davison, who both qualified for last season's NCAA Championships at 125 lbs and 197 lbs, respectively.
