'Cats Impress at Wildcat Invite in Evanston

EVANSTON, Ill. – Hannah McColgan and Kiley Rabjohns, Maria Shusharina and Sydney Pratt, and Justine Leong and Ema Lazic competed as pairs in Northwestern's Wildcat Invite at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center this weekend.
The matches were played in compass draw format, with each pair playing three times over the weekend. Each match consisted of a doubles game, as well as singles matches for each individual. Winning at least two of the three matches would move the winning team up their bracket.
Senior Hannah McColgan and first-year Kiley Rabjohns went 2-1 against UIC, Iowa, and Michigan State on the weekend. The duo matched up with UIC on Day 1, winning both singles matches after losing the doubles point to win their first matchup. McColgan won her singles match on Day 2, but the duo could not take down a tough Iowa pair. The Wildcat pair matched up with Michigan State on Day 3 for a chance to win the draw. After winning the doubles point, both McColgan and Rabjohns won their singles matches to sweep Michigan State and win on the final day.
Maria Shusharina and Sydney Pratt earned an extremely impressive win, defeating a Duke team in the semifinals on Day 2. After dropping their doubles match, Shusharina and Pratt battled back to each take their singles match in three sets, earning a huge point against No. 8 Duke. The duo would fall to a different Duke pair on Day 3 in the finals.
Justine Leong and Ema Lazic defeated a Notre Dame duo on Day 1, after winning the doubles point and a solo victory by Lazic. However, the pair dropped two tight contests to two Duke teams on the final two days.
The Wildcats will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Super Midwest Regionals next weekend.
