Top Newcomer Kim Headlines Big Ten Golf Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. – First year Irene Kim was named Big Ten Women's Golf Freshman of the Year, the league office announced on Monday. She was one of three Wildcats to earn All-Big Ten honors, as sophomore Kelly Sim was named to the first team and senior Brooke Riley joined Kim on the second team. Kelly Su was named the Wildcats' Sportsmanship Award Honoree.
Kim earned her first collegiate victory at the 2020 Puerto Rico Classic after she set the third-best 54-hole mark in NU history with a 9-under 207, and a final round 5-under 67 to capture medalist honors to lead the Wildcats to a come-from-behind team title. The California native is the fifth Wildcats golfer to earn the Big Ten Freshman of the Year honor, and third in the last eight seasons following Kaitlin Park (2013), Hannah Kim (2015) and Stephanie Lau (2016).
Sim was a first team All-Big Ten selection for the second consecutive year after earning two top-5 finishes this season and holding the team's lowest stroke average after seven events at 73.33. Sim captured her first collegiate win at the 11th annual Bruin Wave Invitational at the San Luis Obispo Country Club. She set a tournament record in the opening round with a 5-under 67, matching the 14th-best single round in program history.
Riley earned All-Big Ten honors for the second time in her career. The senior placed in the Top-10 twice this season and started in all seven tournaments.
