Kirsten Mansfield Named NCAA Statistical Champion

EVANSTON, Ill. β Senior Kirsten Mansfield was named an NCAA Division I statistical champion following the 2019-20 season after leading the nation with 17 assists and averaging 0.77 assists per game.
Mansfield's 17 assists throughout the season are tied for the sixth-most in program history. She contributed an assist in 11 of Northwestern's 22 games, with the Wildcats posting a 10-1 record in those games. Additionally, she also posted multiple assists in five games, including notching a career-high tying three assists against UMass Lowell on September 13. She also scored four goals on the year.
Northwestern finished the season 14-8 and secured a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons.
A two-time captain from West Chester, Pennsylvania, Mansfield was a force among the Wildcat lineup in each of the past four seasons, appearing in 84 games over the course of her career and recording double-digit assists in all four seasons. As a sophomore in 2017, she netted a career-high nine goals and was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team before going on to score a goal and record two assists in a 3-2 victory over Louisville in the NCAA Tournament.
With 53 career assists, Mansfield joins Jennifer Averill (1983-86, 70) and Lisa McCarthy (2012-15, 54) as the third player in program history to record over 50 career assists. She also ranks second among all active Division I Field Hockey players in career assists. Her 22 goals scored and 53 assists during her career give her 97 career points, which rank 11th most in Northwestern history.
Mansfield is also a four-time Academic All-Big Ten awardee and has been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's National Academic Squad four times as well. Last year, she completed her undergraduate education with a degree in psychology and will earn a master's degree in public health this year. Mansfield was also honored with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award following this season.
