EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 14 Wildcats can clinch a share of their first Big Ten Title in 30 years on Saturday with a win against rivals Illinois on Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. CT on BTN, but fans should arrive up to early for Senior Day ceremonies.
The Wildcats will be honoring five members of the Class of 2020: Amber Jamison, Bry Hopkins, Byrdy Galernik, Abbie Wolf and Abi Scheid.
Northwestern, riding a season-high eight-game win streak, is 25-3 overall and 15-2 in the Big Ten, tied for first place with Maryland. A win clinches a share of the Big Ten Title, and if the 'Cats win Saturday and the Terps lose Sunday, the 'Cats can claim the title outright.
A win Saturday would also give head coach Joe McKeown the program record for wins in a season with 26. This year's team is currently tied with the 1978-79 squad for the record with 25 wins, but owns the record for most wins in the NCAA era, breaking the previous record of 24 set in the Big Ten title-winning campaign of 1989-90.
Last time out on Tuesday, the 'Cats defeated Ohio State on the road 69-55 thanks to another second half surge at the start of the fourth quarter. Scheid led the way with a game-high 19 points with a 5-7 clip from deep, while junior guard Lindsey Pulliam chipped in with 16.
Northwestern defeated Illinois in their previous matchup this season in the first game of conference play on Dec. 28, 2019, by a 77-50 scoreline. Pulliam poured in a then-season high 27 points while Wolf added 18.
Pulliam, Scheid and sophomore guard Veronica Burton spoke to the media on Thursday, as well as head coach McKeown. Their press conferences can be found below.
