Iowa City, IA- Northwestern's no. 16 women's swimming and diving squad is set to begin competition at the Big Ten Championships this week in Iowa City, IA. The meet will take place over four days, with races starting at 6:30 p.m. CT Wednesday, Feb. 19 and concluding by 10 p.m. CT Saturday, Feb. 22.
The Wildcats are coming off a 12 -3 regular season, featuring a 3-1 record in the conference, the only loss coming to Minnesota. This is the best regular season finish in program history.
Northwestern will get a chance to unleash its 200 medley relay in the first event on Wednesday. The team of Calypso Sheridan, Sophie Angus, Maddie Smith and Malorie Han is the best to ever don the purple and white, clocking in at a school record breaking 1:37.60 against Cincinnati.
On Thursday, look for Sheridan to dominate in the 200 IM. She comes in with a season best time of 1:56.57, the third fastest in the conference this season. The 50 and 500 free are also raced Thursday, with Maddie Smith and Ally Larson prime candidates to make a splash for Northwestern in those events. Thursday's competition concludes with the 400 medley relay, giving the Wildcats another opportunity to show off an all-time best relay team of Sheridan, Hannah Brunzell, Miriam Guevara and Maddie Smith. They come in with a time of 3:33.80.
On Friday, Sheridan, the current Big Ten record holder will take the conference's second best time into the 400 IM and the conference's third best time into the 100 back. Meanwhile first-year phenom Brunzell should excite in the 100 breast, coming in with a time of 59.76.
In tournament's final day on Saturday, Northwestern brings four of the conference's ten best times into both the 200 back and 200 breast. London, England native Larson is also locked in with the third best seed time in the 200 fly.
