COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two Wildcats faced the nation's best junior fencers at USA Fencing's Junior Olympics this weekend. Celia Crompton competed in junior foil on Friday, while Abigail Swallow took the strip on Saturday for junior sabre.

Celia Crompton went 4-2 in pools. In the first round, Crompton faced Sophie Hirsch and cruised through the round 15-8. In the table of 128, she faced Tarleton Hunt and lost, 15-14, in a close bout. Crompton closed out the competition 93rd, overall.

Abigail Swallow excelled in the first part of the competition and swept her pool with six straight wins. Following her exceptional performance in pools, she earned a bye for the first round. In the table of 128, she faced Alana Schmitt and won, 15-10. In the round of 64, Swallow lost to Vera Kong, 15-10, and finished the event 35th overall.

"Celia and Abigail both fenced really well this weekend," said head coach Zach Moss. "They faced some tough opponents and took some tough losses, but showed a lot of resilience. The rest of the team took the weekend to rest up in preparation for the Conference Championship. We're looking forward to that event next weekend."

Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action next weekend at the Midwest Conference Championship, hosted by Ohio State University. The 'Cats came out on top in 2018 and 2019 against Ohio State and brought home back-to-back championships.

The #B1GCats, who are opening up their post-season at the championship, will be competing for an individual title on Saturday and will take on the strip on Sunday for the team event.
