Wood's Career Night Leads to a Victory for No. 19 Wildcats

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Northwestern gained a gritty victory on the road against Michigan, 66-60. The 'Cats are on a four-game win streak, and moved to 21-3 overall and 11-2 in conference.
Sophomore guard Sydney Wood was a stand-out for the 'Cats on offense and defense. Going 100% from the field and from the charity stripe, Wood led the team with a career high 14 points while contributing three steals. Senior center Abi Scheid tied with Wood with 14 points going 50% in three-point field goals.
All-in-all four 'Cats reached double digits, with sophomore guard Veronica Burton and senior center Abbie Wolf adding 13 points apiece. Wood and Burton also led the team in assists with three.
The Wildcats and the Wolverines battled for the lead in the first quarter, trading blows with every possession. The first quarter ended 19-18 in favor of Michigan. Wolf led the team with eight points, but the 'Cats were unable to capture the lead by the end of the first half and Michigan led 35-30.
In the second half Scheid and Wood gave Northwestern the jolt it needed to take the lead, and the 'Cats ended the third quarter up, 55-49. Michigan fought hard in the final quarter but Northwestern would not relent and a three-pointer from Burton sealed the win for the Wildcats.
Northwestern will be returning home to Welsh-Ryan Arena on Sunday at 2 p.m. for their Play4Kay and Alumni game against Nebraska.
