Evanston, Ill.- A dominating first two games to start the season for Lindsey McKone has earned the senior Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. This is McKone's first weekly conference award.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 2-0 record in the first week of the 2020 season, taking a commanding 30-3 win at home against Detroit Mercy last Friday before traveling to Durham, NC to beat #20 Duke 24-20 on Sunday.
McKone found the back of the net six times over those two games, putting one in against Detroit Mercy and netting a career high five goals against Duke. Her previous best mark of four goals came in a 24-4 win over Marquette in March 2019. The Bellaire, TX native also added three assists against Detroit Mercy and two assists against Duke, accounting for 11 of Northwestern's points in the opening weekend.
Those 11 points made up 20% of the 54 total goals for the Wildcats over the first two games, the most points Northwestern has put up in two games to start the season since the team was reestablished in 2002.
The number three ranked cats will look to stay hot at home this Friday, Feb. 14 against Notre Dame. Game time is set for 7 p.m. CT.
