EVANSTON, Ill. – Four Wildcats earned invites to the tryouts for the United States women's national lacrosse team that will compete at the 2021 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship, as announced by head coach Jenny Levy on Monday.

The four Wildcats receiving invites are junior Izzy Scane, seniors Ally Palermo and Lauren Gilbert, and graduate Sammy Mueller. The four 'Cats are the only current student-athletes from the Big Ten to receive tryout invites. A total of 50 players received invites, including just 20 current Division I student-athletes,

Team tryouts will be held at US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., from Dec. 4-6, 2020 and the world championship will be hosted by US Lacrosse from July 7-17 at Towson University in Towson, Md.

Scane is one of six invites that are juniors or younger, and one of five invites that competed for the most recent U.S. U19 team in 2019. Palermo also was a member of the 2019 U19 training team.

Scane was named the 2019 Big Ten Freshman of the Year after a scintillating rookie campaign where she scored 62 goals and recorded 18 assists. In the abbreviated 2020 campaign, the then-sophomore led the offense with 29 goals and seven assists through seven games, good for the eighth best individual goals-per-game mark in the country. She came one goal short of the Northwestern individual one-game record after a herculean eight-goal effort against No. 1 North Carolina.

Gilbert exploded onto the scene in her sophomore season in 2019 after transitioning from midfield to attack, and she tallied 52 goals and 13 assists to wind up with the fourth-highest point total on the team. After assuming a larger role in her junior year, she amassed 25 goals and 9 assists in the shortened seven-game season, giving her the 27th best points-per-game output in the country.

Palermo has been a staple of the Northwestern midfield throughout her three-year career and earned All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore in 2019. Her 79 career ground balls lead the Wildcats as do her 34 caused turnovers.

Mueller joined the Wildcats this offseason after a standout career at the University of Virginia where she accumulated 165 goals, 50 assists, 171 ground balls, 84 caused turnovers and 204 draw controls in 69 games with 67 starts. Mueller has been named to multiple All-America teams, including an IWLCA First Team All-America nod for her junior campaign in 2019.

A record 30 nations are expected to compete in the 2021 championship at Towson University. This is the first time the women's world championship has been held in the United States since 2005.
