Wildcats' Momentum Stalls at Home to Iowa

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern could not make it two Big Ten wins in a row on Tuesday night, falling to Iowa, 75-62, at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Sophomore guard Miller Kopp led the way for the Wildcats with 15 points and seven rebounds. It was Kopp's sixth straight game in double figures and 12th overall this season. Coming into the contest, Kopp was averaging 11.8 PPG in conference play and was shooting an impressive 40% from three-point range.

First-year forward Robbie Beran continued his strong play, finishing with nine points and five rebounds. Beran is now averaging 9.0 points over his last four games since he cracked the starting lineup. He was averaging just 3.7 points over the first 12 contests.

Sophomore forward Pete Nance got his third double-double of the season after scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 boards. His night was highlighted by a monster putback dunk to give the Wildcats the 18-16 lead in the first half.

The Wildcats had a strong start to the game. Ryan Young was hot early, hitting his second career three-pointer and scoring five of Northwestern's first seven points overall. Later in the half, a pair of free throws by Pete Nance put the Wildcats up 20-16 with 10:18 to go.

Iowa went on a 9-3 run heading into halftime, taking a 41-35 lead into the locker room.

At the break, Kopp led all scorers with 14 points, including seven straight for Northwestern to end the half. The Wildcats also dominated on the glass, winning the rebounding battle 22-11. Kopp and Nance led in that department with six rebounds each.

It was the Wildcat defense that stepped up to start the second frame, holding Iowa scoreless for the first three and a half minutes of play. However, the Wildcats were never able to get it closer than a four-point game over that span.

Beran led the Wildcats in the second stanza, scoring all of his nine points in the latter half of the frame.

Chicago's Big Ten Team will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 18 against rival No. 24 Illinois in Champaign at 4 p.m CT.
