De Breij, Gandhi and Mansfield Earn Big Ten Preseason Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. βΒ Northwestern field hockey had three of its student-athletes named to the Big Ten Conference field hockey preseason honors list Tuesday, August 27. Seniors Saar de Breij, Lily Gandhi and Kirsten Mansfield were awarded with the distinction.Β

Mansfield, who logged the most minutes out of any Wildcat last season (1,316), led head coach Tracey Fuchs' side with 13 assists during her junior campaign. Her 21 points ranked second on the team and the West Chester, Pa. native started in all 19 games in 2018.Β
De Breij contributed strongly to the 'Cats offensive production as well, notching seven points last season. The Dutch native stepped up greatly against challenging opponents, as she recorded a helper in the season opener against No. 1 Connecticut and notched the first goal of the game against No. 6 Penn State.Β

Gandhi enters her final season as a Wildcat coming off a year where she started in every game but one and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten list. She contributed to one of NU's two goals in a victorious top-15 matchup against Iowa last season.

The Wildcats officially begin their season this weekend with a trip out to Palo Alto, Calif. where they will square off against notable programs in Stanford, UConn and California. The three programs combined for 38 wins last season.Β
