Steigleder, Wood and Thron named to Preseason Honors List

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern junior Regan Steigleder and sophomores Mackenzie Wood and Julietta Thron earned spots on the Big Ten Preseason Honors List as announced by the conference on Monday.
Steigleder has been a fixture in the Wildcat midfield over her previous two years at Northwestern, starting 37 games while contributing two goals and one assist. She was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team in 2017, and was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree last season.
Wood enjoyed a breakout rookie campaign as the Northwestern netminder last season, posting eight shutouts, an .854 save percentage and a .650 goals-against-average in 19 starts. She earned a spot the Big Ten All-Freshman team and claimed three weekly honors of the course of the season from the conference.
Thron remains as the only consistent starter from last year's backline, which set the program record for longest shutout streak at 668:42. Thron earned a Defensive Player of the Week award from the Big Ten and finished her first-year season with three assists.
The Wildcats were one of six Big Ten teams last year to make the NCAA Tournament and are coming off their fourth-straight appearance in the competition.
The 'Cats open their season this week at home on Thursday against SMU at 6 p.m. before taking Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. on Sunday at 3 p.m.
