92 Northwestern student-athletes received at-large and spring Academic All-Big Ten honors, giving the Wildcats a school record 265 Academic All-Big Ten honorees during the 2018-19 year.
"Our student-athletes raise the bar each year, and make clear there is no place like Northwestern if you want to be elite academically, socially and athletically," said Combe Family Vice President for Athletics & Recreation Jim Phillips. "While they excel visibly representing our university in competition, this is another reminder the Wildcats community should be extremely proud of the commitment our young men and women quietly display each day in the classroom."
This marks the ninth straight year that Northwestern has tallied 200-plus Academic All-Big Ten recipients and the fifth consecutive spring with more than 80 honorees. A school-record 118 Wildcat student-athletes received Academic All-Big Ten laurels in the fall combined with 55 recipients from the winter.
Eight Northwestern sports are eligible for spring awards. To be eligible for an Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution carrying a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Baseball tallied 17 honorees, the most among its league counterparts while Men's Tennis had eight recipients, which is the highest mark from the program in the last ten years.
The conference office will also present the Distinguished Scholar Award in July. Qualifying students must be in at least their second year at their institution while earning at least a 3.7 GPA for the 2018-19 academic year.
Earlier this month the NCAA released its Academic Progress Rate (APR) data. Northwestern led all Big Ten institutions and ranked second among Power Five schools with 13 varsity programs receiving Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards, given to programs that place in the top-10% of their respective sports in the latest multi-year data.
