Five ‘Cats Receive All-Region Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. - Five Wildcats were named All-West/Midwest Region by the IWLCA. Senior Selena Lasota, first-year Izzy Scane and sophomore Brennan Dwyer earned first-team honors while junior Lindsey McKone and sophomore Ally Palermo took home second-team distinctions.
Lasota and Scane lead Northwestern's nationally second-ranked scoring offense, averaging 4.32 and 3.0 goals goals per game, respectively. Lasota currently ranks 5th in the nation in goals with 82 in 2019 and has the most career goals among active players with 284. The 2019 Big Ten Attacker of the Year looks to add even more to that total during the NCAA Final Four this weekend.
Scane ranks second on the team in goals with 52 on the year and has earned was unanimously named the 2019 Big Ten Freshman of the Year. She also came up big in the Big Ten Championship game, scoring four goals and getting an assist in a 16-11 win over No.1 Maryland.
Dwyer has been critical for the 'Cats in the draw control circle, earning 172 draw controls, good for the most in the Big Ten and 5th most in the nation. She saved one of her best performances for the Big Ten title game, earning nine draw controls, only one less than the entire Maryland team.
McKone's second-team honors come behind her team-leading 27 assists and a career-high 43 goals, shattering her previous career-high of 10. Palermo helped lead a stout Wildcat defense that has held opponents to a -63 scoring differential on the year.
Student-athletes selected for All-Region honors are eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team. The IWLCA will celebrate the 2019 All-Americans during Divisional All-American Specials, which will be aired on Lax Sports Network in mid-June.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action Friday night at 6:30 as they take on No. 1 Maryland in the NCAA Semi-finals in Baltimore.
