‘Cats Head to Homewood for Championship Weekend

EVANSTON Ill. – Coming off of a 18-14 victory over Syracuse in the NCAA Quarterfinal game, the No. 4 Northwestern Wildcats will head to Baltimore for the 2019 NCAA Women's lacrosse Final Four for the first time since 2014.
 
Northwestern will take on No. 1 Maryland, on the same field where they defeated them to win the Big Ten Tournament earlier this month, for a spot in the national championship game.
 
The 'Cats split the season series, losing in the regular season, but defeating the Terrapins 16-11 to win the Big Ten Tournament title three weeks ago. They'll look to replicate that performance this weekend behind senior attacker Selena Lasota and first-year attacker Izzy Scane, who each had four goals in the last meeting.
 
Sophomore draw control specialist Brennan Dwyer will also look to stay hot against Maryland. Last time these two teams lined up in the circle, Dwyer helped the 'Cats control the game by winning a game-high nine draw controls, just one less than the entire Maryland team.
 
Northwestern heads into the semi-final with the second ranked scoring offense in the nation, averaging nearly 18 goals per game. But they'll face a tough test in Maryland, who have the nation's third rated scoring defense, only allowing an average of 7.65 goals per game.
 
The game will stream on ESPN3 and ESPN News starting at 6:30 pm CST. The winner of the game will play in the national championship game Sunday afternoon against the winner of the North Carolina vs Boston College on ESPNU.
