'Cats Ready for NCAA Tournament

EVANSTON, Ill. — Coming off of their 16-11 win over top-ranked Maryland and claiming the first Big Ten Tournament title in program history, Northwestern will host the first two rounds of the 2019 NCAA Tournament at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium. The Wildcats are seeded to compete on Sunday, May 12 against the winner of this Friday's matchup between Notre Dame and Stanford.
In the Big Ten Championship game, senior Selena Lasota and first-year Izzy Scane each contributed a game-high four goals. Sophomore Lauren Gilbert had three goals, junior Lindsey McKone contributed six points on a hat trick and three assists and sophomore Brennan Dwyer won nine of 19 NU draws to contribute to the 'Cats win.
Lasota leads the 'Cats with 74 goals in 2019 conference play and was awarded three Big Ten player of the week awards this season, unanimously earning her the title of Big Ten Attacker of the Year. The British Columbia native was also unanimously named to the 2019 Big Ten team and was selected as a 2019 Tewaaraton Finalist.
After earning seven consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards, Scane was unanimously voted 2019 Big Ten Freshman of the Year. The first year was also named to the 2019 All-Big Ten Team and will enter the tournament as the third highest scoring first-year in the nation with 52 goals.
Combe Family Head Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller was awarded her first Big Ten Coach of the Year award after guiding her team to the programs first ever Big Ten Tournament title. Amonte Hiller shares the award with Maryland head coach Cathy Reese.
The opening round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament will kick off on Friday, May 10th at Martin Stadium with Notre Dame and Stanford taking the field at 7 pm. The Wildcats will face the winner of Friday night's match up on Sunday afternoon at 1pm at Martin Stadium.
