NAPA, Calif. — Northwestern raced to the top of the leaderboard as the only program to shoot under par in the second round of the Silverado Showdown Monday afternoon.

The 16th-ranked Wildcats hold an 11-shot lead over No. 4 Stanford at even par through 36-holes after shooting 3-under as a team Monday. Junior Brooke Riley (-4), senior Stephanie Lau (-2) and first year Kelly Sim (-1) hold the top three spots among individuals.

Sim made four birdies over her last eight holes to shoot a collegiate-best 68. She made the turn at 1-under before falling to even on the day with a bogey at No. 10, but bounced back right away with a birdie at No. 11 before alternating pars and birdies the rest of the way.

Riley and Lau shared the the lead entering the day, but it was Riley who took over the top spot with her second-consecutive 70 of the tournament. Riley had a bogey-free front nine with back-to-back birdies on No. 8 and No. 9 and was as low as 6-under after a pair of birdies on the back, but dropped two shots with a double bogey on the par-3 15th. The junior lefty has shot three-straight rounds under par dating back to last week's PING/ASU Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona.

Lau continued the steady play that helped her claim the PING/ASU Invitational last week, shooting an even-par 72 to stay two shots back of Riley. Lau was 1-over on the round after a bogey at No. 13, but capped her second day with a birdie on the par-3 17th and a par to post her team-leading 12th round of par or better this season. She has posted a score of par or better in five-straight rounds.

Riley and Lau lead the field through 36-holes on par-4 scoring at 4-under and 3-under, respectively, while Riley and Sim are tied for the field lead with nine birdies each.

Senior Janet Mao rounded out the Wildcats' scoring in the play-five, score-four format with a 3-over, 75. Mao was 3-over on the front and fell to 5-over through 11 holes with back-to-back bogeys to start the back nine, but closed with momentum by making birdies at No. 16 and No. 17.

The Wildcats will look to claim their first tournament win since the 2017 NCAA Championships Stroke Play on Tuesday when they tee off alongside No. 4 Stanford and No. 1 USC at 10 a.m. CT.
