NAPA, Calif. — Senior Stephanie Lau and junior Brooke Riley share the lead at 2-under and the 16th-ranked Northwestern women's golf program is two shots off the team lead after one round of the Silverado Showdown.
The Wildcats shot 3-over on day one at the Silverado Country Club and are tied for second with No. 1 USC and No. 9 UCLA. San Jose State leads the 18-team field at 1-over.

Lau and Riley each made a team-high five birdies Sunday afternoon. First year Kelly Sim shot 3-over and classmate Kelly Su shot 4-over to round out the Wildcats' scoring in the play-five, score-four format.
The Wildcats started the round on the back nine and Lau — the reigning Big Ten Golfer of the Week — picked up where she left off in by winning the PING/ASU Invitational last week with back-to-back birdies to start the round. The Fullerton, California, native made it three birdies in her first four holes at No. 4 and despite a bogey on No. 16, bounced right back with a birdie on No. 17 to make the turn at 3-under. She moved to 4-under with a birdie at No. 6, but stumbled with bogeys on two of her final three holes to finish with an opening round 70.
Riley also made three birdies on her first nine, including back-to-back birdies on the par-3 15th and par-5 16 to make the turn at 2-under. She fell to even with bogeys on No. 2 and No. 4 but closed her round strong with back-to-back birdies on No. 8 and No. 9 to grab a share of the lead.
Sim and Su battled out of the gates, but were able to respond by each shooting 1-under on the front nine to close the round.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will tee off on Monday alongside Stanford at Pepperdine starting at 10:45 a.m. CT.
