'Cats Fall to #18 Michigan, 6-1

EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 25 Northwestern suffered its first Big Ten loss of the season with a 6-1 setback to No. 18 Michigan on Saturday afternoon at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
After winning their first six conference matches, the Wildcats came out fighting in a nail-biting doubles point. After #40 ranked duo Clarissa Hand and Lee Or fell 6-2 in No. 1 doubles, Inci Ogut and Rheeya Doshi rebounded with a 6-3 win in the No. 3 slot.
Unfortunately, the #82 ranked pairing of Julie Byrne and Hannah McColgan lost 7-6 in a tiebreak and Michigan took the doubles point.
In singles play, Lee Or grabbed a point for the 'Cats with her tenth win of the dual season in a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.
#37 Clarissa Hand lost a tough matchup against #3 Kate Fahey at No. 1 singles, while Julie Byrne was also outmatched versus #85 Giula Pairone.
Caroline Pozo, Rheeya Doshi and Carol Finke also suffered defeats in No. 3, 5, and 6 singles, respectively.
Chicago's Big Ten team will be back in action on Sunday at 11 a.m. as they take on Michigan State at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. Stay tuned on twitter as the match may be moved to the Combe Tennis Center due to weather.
