EVANSTON, Ill. – Senior Selena Lasota was drafted fourth overall in the Women's Professional Lacrosse League to the WPLL Fire on Thursday evening.
"Selena has great stickwork, handles well in traffic, and plays with a physicality that is unmatched by most players at the collegiate level right now. All of those factors lead her to be a very impactful player at the professional level," said Ricky Fried, WPLL Fire Head Coach.
On Thursday, the Campbell River, BC native was also selected as one of the 25 finalist for the 2019 Tewaaraton award for the fourth time in her career.
In 2019 season, Lasota has earned three Big Ten Attacker of the Week Awards, two IWLCA Player of the Week honors and was named an Inside Lacrosse Pre-Season All-American. The senior has also claimed the title of Northwestern's all-time goal leader and has the most career goals among all active players.
Northwestern is now tied for the second most players in the WPLL. Lasota becomes the 12th Wildcat in the WPLL, joining Bridget Bianco (Command), Katrina Dowd (Fight), Shelby Fredericks (Pride) Catie Ingrilli (Fight), Alyssa Leonard (Brave), Lauren Murray (Pride), Kara Mupo (Command), Sheila Nesselbush (Fire), Hannah Nielsen (Fire), Spring Saunders (Fire) and Taylor Thornton (Brave).
