
Northwestern Upends No. 18 Ohio State, 5-2

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern opened up the final weekend of the regular season by knocking off No. 18 Ohio State, 5-2, at the Combe Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Northwestern improves to 13-9 overall and 6-4 in league action, while Ohio State falls to 19-4 overall and 8-2 in the Big Ten.
Northwestern took the doubles point with a pair of 6-3 wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Clarissa Hand and Lee Or knocked off Shiori Fukuda and Luna Dormet at No. 1. Hand and Or are 6-2 in league matches this season. Julie Byrne and Hannah McColgan clinched the point by topping No. 74 Isabelle Boulais and Danielle Wolf at the No. 2 spot.
The Wildcats extended their lead to 3-0 thanks to a pair of ranked singles wins. Byrne topped No. 83 Shiori Fukuda, 6-0, 6-4, while Or grabbed a 6-3, 6-2, victory over No. 91 Kolie Allen at No. 3. Fukuda had only lost one Big Ten singles match entering today.
In only her second singles match of her dual career, McColgan delivered the clincher for NU with a 6-2, 7-5, win at No. 6 singles.
Caroline Pozo picked up NU's fifth point with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, win.
The Buckeyes claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 4.
Northwestern returns to action tomorrow for the regular season finale to battle Penn State at 11 a.m. CT. Action is scheduled to take place at the Vandy Christie Center.
