Wildcats Extend Winning Streak to Five, Beat Chicago State, 11-6

4/2/2019 6:16:00 PM | Baseball

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern extended its winning streak to a season-long five-straight games with a 10-6 win over Chicago State on Tuesday afternoon at Rocky & Berenice Miller Park.

The Wildcats collected 16 hits, surpassing their previous season high of 14.

Senior infielder Jack Dunn went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a walk, and a hit by pitch. He improved his Big Ten-leading batting average to .393 and amassed his 200th-career base hit in the contest.

Junior infielder Alex Erro tied his career high with four RBIs, two of which came on his second home run of the season.

First-year catcher Jack Anderson went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Cougars struck first with three runs in the first inning, two of which were unearned. Northwestern, however, quickly answered back thanks to a two-run home run by Alex Erro, his second of the season. His home run drove in senior Jack Dunn.

The Wildcats exploded offensively in the second inning with five runs.

The scoring display began with the first-career triple for rookie first baseman Anthony Calarco. He was driven in by fellow newcomer Jack Anderson, which tied up the score at 3-3.

Two more runs came home with an Erro single, which brought his RBI total to four, tying his career-high. Shawn Goosenberg hit an RBI double and came home on an error to make the score 7-3.

Both squads scored a run in the third inning; Charlie Maxwell hit an RBI single to bring home Leo Kaplan for NU.

Northwestern scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth off the bat of Michael Trautwein, who hit his first-career home run, a two-run shot.

The Cougars scored one more run in the seventh inning.

Jack Dunn collected his 200th-career hit in the seventh inning on an infield single. He later came home after a Goosenberg single and a throwing error by the Cougars.

The 'Cats got a sterling relief appearance by senior Danny Katz, who allowed only one hit and one run over 4.0 innings. He also fanned three Cougars in the outing.

Northwestern is back in action tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. against UIC at Curtis Granderson Stadium.
