Wildcats Best Wolverines on Senior Night

4/18/2019 6:00:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse

EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 6 Northwestern closed out its home regular season slate with a momentous 13-11 win over No. 8 Michigan on Senior Day at Martin Stadium on Thursday.

The Wildcats improved to 10-4 and 4-1 in Big Ten play with two games left in the regular season. The 'Cats handed Michigan just their second loss of the season as they dropped to 14-2 and 4-2 in conference.

Senior Selena Lasota made history with four goals and assist to become the all-time leader in goals in Northwestern history. She now stands at 256, breaking the previous record of 254, set by Shannon Smith from 2009-12.

Sophomore Lauren Gilbert turned in a hat trick and added two assists to tie her season high with five points, she has now scored a goal in each of the Wildcats 14 games this season. First-year Izzy Scane added two goals and has now scored multiple goals in 11-consecutive games.

Senior Mallory Weisse made her second-straight start as goaltender and was phenomenal in the net, notching 11 saves while facing 22 shots.

After Michigan struck first, the 'Cats fired back with three-straight goals of their own from Jill Girardi, Scane and Claire Quinn to take a lead. The Wildcats went on another 3-0 run to take a 7-5 lead early in the second half thanks to goals from Lasota, Lindsey McKone and Gilbert.

The Wolverines took a 10-8 lead with 11:52 remaining in the game, but it was all Wildcats after that as they closed the game on a 6-1 run jumpstarted by a goal from Gilbert after a stellar behind the back pass from Lasota.

The #B1GCats are now 8-0 all-time against the Wolverines. Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action on Saturday, April 20, when they travel to South Bend to take on No. 4 Notre Dame at 6 p.m. CT.
