Northwestern Falls to No. 35 Penn State, 4-2

EVANSTON, Ill. - Jason Seidman and Chris Ephron picked up singles wins for the 'Cats as Northwestern fell to No. 35 Penn State, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at the Combe Tennis Center.
The Nittany Lions claimed the first point of the day after winning two close matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, each by a score of 6-4. Northwestern's No. 1 doubles team of Ephron and Dominik Stary were locked into a tight contest, 4-5, against the nation's 19th-ranked duo of Constant De La Bassetiere and Gabriel Nemeth, but the match went unfinished.
Several 'Cats picked up big wins in singles play. Seidman impressed at No. 6, giving Northwestern its first point after cruising to a 6-4, 6-3 straight-sets victory.
Ephron brought the 'Cats within one point when he clinched the win at No. 3 singles. After splitting the first two sets, Ephron dominated the final set by a score of 6-1, claiming the match, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.
After dropping their first sets, both Simen Bratholm and Trice Pickens battled back at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. The two first years forced final sets after winning second-set tiebreakers 7-6. Penn State clinched the match when Christos Antonopoulos defeated Pickens 6-3 in the third set.
Chicago's Big Ten Team travels to Madison, Wisconsin to take on the Badgers on Friday, April 19th at 3 p.m.
