Updated 2019 Big Ten Championships Brackets

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –
The first session of the 2019 Big Ten Wrestling Championships has wrapped up at Williams Arena, with first-round, quarterfinal and wrestleback matches completed for all ten weight classes.

A pair of Wildcats advanced to the semifinals, with Sebastian Rivera and Conan Jennings each set to wrestle this evening for a spot in tomorrow's finals.

Rivera received a first-round bye as the top seed at 125 lbs. before taking on Devin Schroder of Indiana in the quarterfinals. He dominated the Hoosier grappler to the tune of a 20-4 technical fall, his ninth win by tech of the campaign. The redshirt sophomore will face No. 4 seed RayVon Foley of Michigan State in the semifinals during this evening's session.

In the heavyweight bracket, Jennings matched up against two familiar foes en route to sealing his spot in the last four. He beat his first-round opponent, Deuce Rachal of Illinois, by a score of 1-0, an identical result to their bout on Feb. 15. In the quarterfinals, Jennings came up against Mason Parris, the third-seeded wrestler from Michigan who is ranked No. 6 in the country. The meeting was the third of the campaign between the duo, as Jennings had beaten Parris at Midlands and again in the dual at UM last month.

For a third time this season, Jennings came out on top. The senior recorded two takedowns in the third period and notched a 9-7 decision over the Wolverine grappler. Jennings will be back in action in tonight's semifinals against No. 2 seed Anthony Cassar of Penn State.

In addition to Rivera and Jennings, two more Wildcats picked up victories in the opening session. Ryan Deakin, seeded third at 157, won by major decision over Maryland's Adam Whitesell in the first round with a final score of 12-3. In his first round of wrestlebacks, Zack Chakonis also logged a win, taking down Niko Cappello via 9-5 decision.

All ten NU competitors will be in action tonight this evening in either the semifinals or consolation rounds. Session II will begin at 6 p.m. CT with one round of consolation matches followed by the semifinal contests.
