BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — No. 13 Northwestern improved to 2-0 in Big Ten play with a 5-2 win over Indiana on Saturday morning.
The Wildcats, 8-5 on the campaign, took the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The 47th-ranked duo of Clarissa Hand and Lee Or topped No. 45 Madison Appel and Jelly Bozovic, 6-2, at the top spot, while Rheeya Doshi and Inci Ogut won, 6-0, at No. 3.
Or kept the momentum from the doubles win over to singles play with a 6-4, 6-2, win at No. 3 singles to build NU's lead to 2-0. Indiana got on the board by winning at No. 5 singles before Clarissa Hand picked up a come-from-behind victory at No. 1. Hand dropped the open set to Madison Appel, 2-6, before winning, 6-3, 6-4, to put NU ahead, 3-1.
Carol Finke nabbed the clincher for the Wildcats at the No. 6 spot with a straight set win, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6. Caroline Pozo picked up the fifth point for NU at the No. 4 spot.
