Northwestern's Strong Postseason Continues at NCAA Regionals
3/9/2019 3:19:00 PM | Women's Fencing
SOUTH BEND, Ind.– The No. 4 Northwestern women's fencing team continued its postseason success with a strong showing by all 11 fencers in the NCAA Midwest Regionals, hosted by Notre Dame.
The Regionals were a round robin tournament for the top fencers in each weapon group. Northwestern sent four student-athletes to compete in épée and foil and three in saber.
"I'm very proud of our team's efforts today," said head coach Zach Moss. "We fought hard against tough competition and showed strong resilience, put us in a great place for an NCAA Championship qualification."
Pauline Hamilton continued her dominant junior campaign, finishing fifth in epee with a 7-5 record. Emine Yücel notched 10 wins in saber for the fourth place finish.
In foil, Alyssa Chen and Yvonne Chart picked up 10 wins apiece. The duo finished 6th and 7th, respectively.
Northwestern will learn its NCAA Championship fate when qualifications are announced on Tuesday, March 12. The NCAA Fencing Championships will be held March 23-24 in Cleveland, Ohio.
