INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Despite a furious third-quarter run, Northwestern was unable to withstand a hot shooting performance from Michigan State in a 68-52 setback on Thursday at the Big Ten Tournament in Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Three Wildcats finished in double figures as Abbie Wolf led the team with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting. This marks the second-straight game that Wolf has led the Wildcats in scoring, as she also turned in a 15-point performance last Sunday at Iowa on a 7-of-9 shooting effort.
Veronica Burton scored 10 points while grabbing a career-high eight rebounds and dishing out five assists, marking the fourth time she has finished with at least five assists in the last six games.
Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah turned in a double-digit scoring output for the 21st time this season as she finished with 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Some hot shooting from Abi Scheid helped the 'Cats in the first quarter. She knocked down three triples and led all players with nine points after one frame.
Wolf provided some valuable bench minutes for the Wildcats in the second quarter, as she scored nine points in the second quarter alone on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting as the Wildcats entered the half trailing 39-32.
Northwestern opened on an 8-0 run to open the second half and take a 40-39 lead. The #B1GCats held Michigan State scoreless for over seven minutes of action, including over five minutes to open the third quarter. However, Michigan State regained the lead with 4:53 in the third quarter and would not give it back the rest of the game.
Northwestern is now 16-14 on the year, marking their fifth winning season in the last six years under head coach Joe McKeown.
