Registration Now Open For 2019 Randy Walker Memorial 5K

EVANSTON, Ill. – Registration is now open for the eighth annual Randy Walker Memorial 5K, previously known as the Run For Walk, which will be hosted in Evanston on the morning of Sunday, July 28.

Over the last seven years, Northwestern Athletics & Recreation hosted the event to commemorate former head football coach Randy Walker. As the event has grown in popularity, race organizers have adjusted the course to a traditional 5K in 2019 in order to make it more inclusive for the Chicagoland running community.
"Please join us for the Randy Walker Memorial 5K which honors the legacy of my late husband, Coach Randy Walker," said Tammy Walker. "Over seven years as Northwestern's head football coach, he often was seen walking to-and-from work at Ryan Field and with his dog, Magic, along the campus lakefront. The morning activities will follow in Coach Walk's footsteps and will combine so many things he loved – the Wildcats, healthy exercise, camaraderie, dogs and fun for all ages. On behalf of the Walker family, I thank Northwestern Athletics for celebrating Randy's life with this incredible event you won't want to miss!"
The event, which is part of the Chicago Area Runners Association 2019 Runner's Choice Circuit, will wind through Evanston and the Northwestern campus before finishing on historic Ryan Field. All runners will receive a short-sleeved, technical shirt, a ticket to a non-conference home football game (9/15 vs. UNLV, 11/16 vs. UMass) and entry into the race day partner and hospitality zone.
The early registration fee will be $37.50 through June 30, when it will increase to $40 until July 26. Day-before and race-day registration will be $45. Northwestern University students can register for $25, but will not receive a football game ticket (student admission is complimentary for all Wildcats athletics events).
In addition to the 5K, the event will feature various kids races. The age-group events for kids 14-and-under include a kids' mile, costing $15 (including a football gam ticket), and kids' dashes on the field for $10.
