'Cats Dominate Maryland for Fifth Straight Win

EVANSTON, Ill. — No. 24 northwestern dominated Maryland on Friday afternoon as the Wildcats did not drop a single set en route to a 7-0 victory at Combe Tennis Center.
 
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 11-5 on the campaign and a perfect 5-0 in league action. Maryland moved to 3-11 on the season.
 
The win was NU's second consecutive shutout victory after topping Rutgers, 7-0, earlier this week. The Wildcats have not surrendered more than two points in Big Ten play.
 
Clarissa Hand and Lee Or teamed up for a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Julie Byrne and Hannan McGolgan solidified the doubles point for NU with a 6-1 decision at No. 2.
 
The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Hand beat Millie Stretton, 6-2, 6-2, at the top singles spot. Lee Or picked up a 6-2, 6-2, straight sets win at the No. 3 spot and then Caroline Pozo picked up her fifth consecutive singles win with a 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4 to nab the clincher.
 
Inci Ogut won at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 1-2 (retired) for the sixth point and then Rheeya Doshi capped the sweep with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 5.
 
Northwestern returns to action next weekend on Saturday, April 6, when it hosts Michigan at 11 a.m. CT.
