KENT, Ohio — The Wildcats were swept in a doubleheader on Friday at Schoonover Stadium by Kent State.
The 'Cats dropped the first game, 11-5, and lost the nightcap, 12-1.
KSU scored first in game one, scoring eight runs combined in the first two frames. The Wildcats scored in the third inning via a two-RBI double by senior infielder Jack Dunn.
Jack Dunn drove in three of NU's five runs in the first game, going 1-for-4 with his fourth double of the season. Three Wildcats had multi-hit affairs in the contest, including first-year Shawn Goosenberg, who went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Junior Charlie Maxwell went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored; he hit .600 (3-for-5) over the course of the day.
NU scored one run in the fourth, six, and eighth innings. Senior outfielder Ben Dickey slugged his second-career homer to give NU their lone run in the fourth.
Sophomore southpaw Ryan Bader finished the game for the Wildcats, tossing 2.2-scoreless innings while allowing only one hit.
Northwestern was more limited offensively in the second game, only scoring one run, thanks to an RBI single by Dickey. Redshirt first-year David Dunn had the only multi-hit game for NU, going 2-for-5.
Junior Hank Christie made his first-career relief appearance, tossing 3.0-innings and allowing two runs.
Saturday's series finale was canceled due to weather concerns. NU is back in action on Friday, March 22, for a three-game series against Purdue.
