Wildcats Kickoff Season in Top 10 in All Three Polls

Evanston, Ill. – The votes are in and Northwestern has found itself top 10 in all three preseason polls.
The Wildcats are No. 7 in the IWLC coaches poll and No. 8 in both the Inside Lacrosse Media and US Lacrosse Magazine poll. The Wildcats come into the season one position higher on the Inside Lacrosse poll and four positions higher in both the IWLCA and Lacrosse Magazine polls than at this point last year.
In preseason voting, a pair of Wildcats were named preseason All-Americans in senior attacker Selena Lasota and redshirt sophomore Julie Krupnick.
Coach Amonte Hiller and the 'Cats ended the 2018 season with a 15-4 record and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the 16th consecutive season. In last year's tournament run, Lasota set an NCAA record for most goals in a single game and helped Northwestern advance to the quarterfinals against No. 2 North Carolina.
Northwestern returns four players who earned Big Ten weekly honors last year in Lasota, sophomore midfielders Taylor Pinzone and Jill Girardi and Krupnick. The 'Cats will also be returning three of their top five scorers in Lasota, senior Holly Korn and junior Megan Kinna.
The 2019 schedule features five teams that qualified for the 2018 NCAA tournament, including runner-up Boston College and semifinalists Maryland and North Carolina.
The Wildcats open their season on Friday against Louisville at 7 pm in the inaugural game at Ryan Fieldhouse and Wilson Field. The Wildcats are 6-1 all time against the Cardinals, with their last meeting being in 2017 when the 'Cats defeated the Louisville at Martin Stadium, 12-8.
