‘Cats Down Duke in Season Home Opener

Evanston, Ill. – Northwestern swept their first two home matches of the season in a doubleheader against Duke and Chicago State on Sunday afternoon at the Combe Tennis Center.
Northwestern took down Duke 4-3, claiming the first point of the day with wins from the doubles teams of Nick Brookes/Simen Bratholm (6-2) and Dominik Stary/Chris Ephron (7-6).
The Blue Devils claimed the first two points of singles play, but a dominant performance from Brookes (6-4, 7-5) tied up the match. Antonioni Fasano (6-2, 4-6, 6-2) and Trice Pickens (7-6, 4-6, 6-4) both took their matches to three sets but were able to hold off their competition to help the Wildcats clinch their second dual victory of the season.
Northwestern was back on the court only hours later to take on Chicago State for their second match of the day, where they swept the Cougars 4-0.
The 'Cats were dominant from start to finish, winning the first point of the match with the doubles teams Domink Stary and Chris Ephron (6-1) making quick work of their competition. The team of Antonioni Fasano and Trice Pickens followed in a similar fashion, securing a 6-1 win to put Northwestern up 1-0.
Ben Vandixhorn claimed the first singles point of the match with a quick two set victory over Wurzelbach of Chicago State 6-1, 6-0. Teammate Pickens followed suit, dropping Liddy in two sets (6-1, 6-1) to give the 'Cats a 3-0 lead.
Stary closed out the night for the Wildcats taking down Suler in two sets with a 6-1, 6-3 finish to clinch the match.
With these two matches, the 'Cats are currently on a three match win streak and will be back on their home court February 7th to take on Oklahoma State beginning at 6 pm.
